Angora Lakes is a locals favorite destination, just a short 15 minute drive from most homes in South Lake Tahoe. In the summertime, you'll need to arrive early for parking. It's $8 per car and fills up fast. You must be a able to manage an easy 3/4 mile hike up the dirt access road to get there but well worth the trip. Bring a towel and a picnic and enjoy the crisp air and mountain views. The beach area has boulders to climb on, and across the lake you'll find the famous Angora Lakes Cliffs. We don't recommend jumping, but there are usually a few adrenaline junkies to keep you entertained. For a closer look, rent a canoe, paddle board or kayak. A day to Angora would not be complete without a famous lemonade, or ice cream bar from the General Store. The store and boat rentals are only available in the summer, but hiking is available until the snow closes the parking lot. The fall colors in this area are some of the best in the Sierra's.
