Lake Tahoe Rafting

The Truckee River is Lake Tahoe's only outlet. It starts in Tahoe City, meanders north along highway 89 into the town of Truckee, and then follows Hwy 80 east into Reno. After Reno, it eventually dumps into Pyramid Lake 20 miles north. The first 3 miles of the river out of Tahoe City to where it meets the road into Alpine Meadows ski resort has been a hot spot for river rafting for nearly fifty years! The best way to experience the Truckee River is with Truckee River Rafting, the company with the green RiverMan logo. They have been operating self-guided rafting trips down the Truckee River since 1973, and they supply the rafts, life jackets, and transportation. They are located near the River Grill in Tahoe City, look for the green RiverMan!

On the south shore of the lake, you'll find the Upper Truckee River.  There aren't any outfitters to guide you or provide rafts, but if you have your own tubes, you can drop in at the bridge by the Lake Tahoe Golf Course and several hours later, you'll be Lake Tahoe.  Keep in mind, the Upper Truckee is fresh melted snow!
